During the war years, the Azerbaijani people showed examples of the greatest heroism and courage. More than 700 thousand brave sons and daughters of Azerbaijan went to the front. Azerbaijani divisions went a glorious military path from the Caucasus to Berlin. About 130 of our compatriots were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 30 were awarded the Order of Glory. 170 thousand soldiers and officers called up from Azerbaijan were awarded various orders and medals of the USSR.

Twice Hero of the Soviet Union Azi Aslanov, Heroes of the Soviet Union Israfil Mammadov, Ruslan Vezirov, Adil Guliyev, Zia Buniyatov, Gerai Asadov, Melik Magerramov, Mehti Guseinzade, generals Mahmud Abilov, Akim Abbasov, Tarlan Aliyarbekov new heroes and Gadzhibalovadzalomizalovadjamalibaevi Ghazibalov and others pages in the glorious history of our people.

At that time, the vast majority of the oil potential of the Soviet Union was concentrated in Azerbaijan. 75 percent of the oil produced in the Soviet Union accounted for Azerbaijani oil workers. This oil was refined, turned into fuel, and the people involved in its production made a huge contribution to the overall victory over Nazi Germany. Our veterans have shown us through the example of their lives what it means to have strength of character and will, to truly love their homeland. The memory of the people forever keeps the heroism and courage of our soldiers. Happy Victory Day!
