US accuses Iran of "attack" on tankers in the Gulf of Oman

The United States called Iranian paramilitary forces involved in the oil tanker incident off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

In the evening of June 13, 2019, the U.S. Central Command released a video that, according to service representatives, confirms the involvement of the Iranian revolutionary guard in the "attack" on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

Recall yesterday, according to sources, two tankers - Front Altair under the flag of the Marshall Islands and Kokuka Courageous under the flag of Panama - were attacked 70 nautical miles (about 130 km) from the emirate of Fujairah (UAE). The crews of the tankers were evacuated. One person was slightly injured.

The central command insists that the video demonstrates how Iranian Revolutionary Guard fighters remove an unexploded mine from the hull of one of the tankers.

"Iran categorically rejects the unfounded US claims regarding the oil tanker incidents on June 13 and condemns them most emphatically," the Iranian mission to the United Nations said.

Even before the video was made public, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that it was Iran that was responsible for the attacks on tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

"The United States government believes that the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for the attacks that occurred today in the Gulf of Oman," Pompeo told reporters.

According to Pompeo, Iran is interested in stopping the transportation of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
