UAE drivers reminded of responsibility for driving without a license

United Arab Emirates police warns motorists against driving without a license.

Abu Dhabi police warned motorists that they are in compliance with traffic rules and that motorists must have a valid driver’s license.

Drivers without rights, according to police, are "a great danger to road users and cause the death of innocent people."

The announcement is due to a recent tragedy that claimed the lives of three children and their nanny on the first day of Eid al-Fitr. The accident occurred in Abu Dhabi - a woman at the wheel lost control and crashed into a lamppost. According to police, the driver made a dangerous maneuver and did not have a driver’s license.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al-Suweidi warned that violators without rights face a punishment - imprisonment for up to three months and / or a minimum fine of 5 thousand dirhams ($ US 1.36 thousand). He also said that the police would not show indulgence to violators.

The police also called on parents to prohibit underage children from driving without a license. Parents who are found to be in violation of this rule will also be held accountable.

In the first six months of 2018, police arrested 342 minors for driving without a license.
