In Dubai, the court abolished the punishment for a Russian woman who killed her boyfriend

The court canceled the 10-year prison sentence of a Russian entrepreneur who killed her lover who refused to marry her.

The Dubai Supreme Court abolished the 10-year prison sentence of a 35-year-old Russian entrepreneur who had previously been convicted of the murder of her boyfriend. A new trial has also been scheduled in the Dubai Court of Cassation.

In December, the Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the punishment for a woman who fatally stabbed her Palestinian-born lover in August 2014 after he refused to marry a Russian woman.

Having pleaded guilty in the court of appeal, the woman stated that she was drunk at the time of the murder and after committing the crime, according to the accused, she slept next to the corpse before contacting the police the next day.

Judge Abdul Aziz Abdullah, who presides at the last meeting in the case, canceled the punishment of the defendant after her lawyer proved that his client did not intend to commit murder acting in self-defense, and the woman is not responsible for her actions in connection with a mental illness.

The woman claimed in court that she loved the deceased. She said that she lent him 500 thousand dirhams ($ 136 thousand) and bought him two cars.

A police officer testified that the accused wept bitterly next to the victim’s body when he arrived at the apartment where the crime had occurred. The policeman also confirmed that the woman was drunk.

A friend of the deceased, who last saw him alive, told the court that the Pakistani looked depressed during their meeting.

“He told me that he no longer feels comfortable with a Russian woman. He told me that he wanted to break off relations with her. Then we went to the pub. ... At noon the next day, the accused informed me by phone that she had killed her friend. She was a jealous woman, ”he said.

A hearing will be scheduled shortly.
