Ramadan: how to drive!

During Ramadan in the UAE, the number of traffic accidents sharply increases. How to drive in order not to get into an accident?

Most accidents happen during rush hours, when many rush to work. Accidents are fairly evenly distributed over the four weeks of Ramadan, but Tuesday is the most dangerous day and Saturday is the least dangerous.

Resource Road Safety UAE has compiled a list of rules for safe driving during Ramadan:

  • Watch out for morning rush hour
  • Watch drivers who like unexpected changes, including cyclists, motorcyclists and even pedestrians, and stay away from them
  • During iftar, especially carefully monitor the signals of traffic lights, start driving only on a green light, do not even drive through a flashing green
  • Keep your distance
  • Plan your time wisely so you don’t have to rush and drive at high speed
  • Try not to drive while the sun is setting.
  • At dusk, before sunset, turn on the lights
  • Get enough sleep, do not drive tired and drowsy
  • If you start to doze, stop moving immediately and park
